Tutte le tastiere di cui sopra condividono la stessa filosofia, alcune hanno display LCD a colori, altri hanno schermi retroilluminati monocromatici, ma la pagina a video è tutto sommato la stessa e presenza funzioni analoghe. Fondamentalmente l’hardware si divide in tre categorie: tastiere portatili, tastiere professionali, pianoforti digitali. Ma le funzioni operative sono essenzialmente le stesse, cambia la disponibilità: le tastiere professionali hanno un numero elevato di funzioni e di porte di comunicazione con l’esterno, i pianoforti digitali hanno una bella tastiera pesata ad 88 tasti e un mobile come si deve.

Con il passare degli anni, i nuovi modelli hanno aumentato il patrimonio tecnologico di bordo: porte USB, registrazione audio, Mega Voice, Super Articulation Voice, MP3, touch screen… ma la continuità di base del sistema operativo permette ai musicisti di cambiare il proprio strumento senza “partire da zero”.

E non dimentichiamo la piena compatibilità degli stili della sezione arranger: praticamente sui recentissimi modelli è possibile caricare tutti gli stili di fabbrica di tutti i modelli Yamaha precedenti dal 1997 ad oggi. E, salvo recentissime eccezioni, suonano tutti divinamente bene.
